VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - The Campbell government has rejected an opposition attempt to re-open the debate over electoral reform. The NDP's Leonard Krog tried to amend a government bill that will see a new electoral boundaries commission examine the single transferable vote system. Krog says it should also look at mixed member proportional representation before British Columbians vote on electoral reform in 2008. “The bill as it stands without passage of the amendment that I'm proposing this morning will in fact limit British Columbians to only one choice,” said Krog. But Attorney General Wally Oppal says the citizens' assembly already reviewed proportional representation. “It was rejected by a vote of 123 to 31,” Oppal said. The liberal majority defeated Krog's amendment and passed the bill.
